Extended deadline 26/04/2002 !!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Symposium
The biannual Brazilian Symposium on Artificial Intelligence (SBIA'02)
- of which this is the 16th event - is a meeting and discussion forum
for Artificial Intelligence researchers, practitioners, and students
worldwide. SBIA is the leading conference in Brazil for presentation
of research and applications in Artificial Intelligence. Since 1995,
SBIA has become an international conference, with papers written in
English, an international program committee, and proceedings published
in the Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence series of
Springer-Verlag (SBIA'95:991, SBIA'96:1159, SBIA'98:1515,
SBIA'00:1952).
SBIA'02, sponsored by the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC), will be
held in Porto de Galinhas/Recife in November 11-14, Hotel Armao
(http://www.hotelarmacao.com.br/). Porto de Galinhas, at the south
coast of Recife, is one of the most beautiful and famous beaches of
Brazil. Porto de Galinhas coast has 18 km of beaches with natural
pools, fish of all colors and warm green clean waters. Recife,
located on the northeast of Brazil, is known as the "Brazilian Venice"
because of its many canals and waterways and the innumerable bridges
that span them. It is the major gateway to the of the Brazilian
Northeast with regular flights to all major cities in Brazil as well
as Lisbon, London, Frankfurt, and Miami.
This year, SBIA'02 will be held in conjunction with the VII Brazilian
Symposium on Neural Networks (SBRN'02). SBRN'02 has its main focus on
Neural Networks and on other models of computational
intelligence. Crossfertilization of these fields will be strongly
encouraged. Both Symposia will feature keynote speeches and tutorials
by world-leading researchers. More details on paper submission and
conference registration will be coming soon.

Paper Submission
Policies
The papers should present substantial new results in theoretical,
empirical and applied research in all areas of Artificial
Intelligence. SBIA'02 allows simultaneous submission of papers to
other conferences, provided that this fact is clearly indicated by the
authors in the submission process.
All accepted papers will be published by Springer-Verlag in the
Lectures Notes in Artificial Intelligence Series. All authors of
accepted papers will then be required to sign copyright release forms,
and one author of each accepted paper will be required to attend the
conference to present the paper. Furthermore, it is the conference
policy that at least one of the authors of accepted papers has to
register for SBIA'02. Otherwise, the paper will not be included in the
proceedings.
Format Papers must be written in English and should be no longer than
10 pages, including all tables, figures, and references, but excluding
the cover page. Over-length papers may be rejected without review. It
is recommended that the authors use the style file of Springer-Verlag
Lecture Notes (www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html) to minimise the
possible conflict of paper length when preparing the camera ready.
Review Process
All papers received will be cross-reviewed by at least two referees in
the topical area. The Camera-Ready papers will be reviewed by one
person.
Submission Procedure
The submission of papers is to be performed through the site
http://cyberchair.das.ufsc.br/. This site, generated by the
CyberChair system (www.cyberchair.org) provides all the
necessary information about the submission procedure.
