=============================================================

There is a growing interest in providing technology-mediated lifelong learning services (LLL) for ALL. Although an increasing number of the users interested in these services are adult learners and people with disabilities most available settings do not consider functional diversity requirements. Moreover, it is a hot research issue how to acquire, update and manage user models that consider the functional diversity of users so that their accessibility needs are met.

On the one hand, user modelling is supposed to provide the appropriate content transformations and adapted resources to users' needs when available. On the other hand, contents are supposed to follow Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 1.0), which version 2.0 of these guidelines is near completion. Moreover, users access contents and services with a variety of devices and with different interaction modes that should consider personal characteristics (including disabilities) and the context of usage.

In addition, to make this framework interoperable, flexible and extensible, contents, user models and device descriptions should be standardized. In this respect, available specifications, such as IMS AccessForAll Specifications are currently being adopted within an ISO standard under development in that organisation's committee known as JTC1 SC34. There has also been work towards profiling the AccessForAll metadata to the IEEE LOM - Learning Object Metadata standard and the Dublin Core (DCMI) metadata set.

Workshop Topics
===============

Users features dealing with different access strategies and the usage of assistive technologies

* Modelling group collaboration where users may have different access needs
* User, usage and environment data to be considered when developing accessible user models
* Existing standards and limitations for the user modelling approach
* Management of user modelling and adaptation issues in ePortfolios
* Accessible web user interfaces and user modelling
* User profile specifications and their limitations for user modelling (e.g. IMS-AccLIP versus CC/PP)
* Problems to be considered when integrating user and device profiles
* Evaluation of user experience providing adapted responses to people with functional diversity * Modelling users in the life long learning paradigm and related user modelling and accessibility issues
* Context awareness and device modelling
* Recommender systems to promote dynamics for students with special needs
* Types of architectures to support adaptive and accessible resource delivery

Workshop Format
===============

The format of the workshop is based on question-oriented organization with lively discussions rather than mini-conference organization. In particular, the methodology used will be based on an adaptation of the "learning discussion forum" (aka Learning Café Methodology) which involve expert's introductions and group discussions ensuring that all participants can have a direct impact in addressing the workshop questions.

Submissions
===========

The format for the workshop papers should be the standard Springer format used for the main conference BUT with narrower margins:
TOP and BOTTOM - 3cm;
LEFT and RIGHT - 3.5cm.

The length of the papers will be 3 pages with direct answers to some of the challenging open questions. The authors are encouraged to answer only those questions that have been previously address in their research works.

Each paper will be pair reviewed by 3 experts, who will provide valuable feedback for the work.

Submissions should be in Open Document Format (ODT file), although RTF format is also accepted.

Workshop papers will be published in the workshop proceedings by the UM2007 Organizing Committee, and will also be available on the workshop Web site.
