Ray Solomonoff is the founding father of Universal Induction. Inductive reasoning in one way or another is a key ingredient in most AI systems, and the induction problem is a long-standing (supposedly open) philosophical problem. His recent death (7 Dec. 2009) at age 83 has spurred various event and publications of potential interest to some list members:
