PRELIMINARY CALL FOR PAPERS

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MEDICAL IMAGING USING BIO-INSPIRED AND SOFT
COMPUTING

(MIBISOC 2013)

15 – 17 May 2013. Brussels (Belgium)

Organized by MIBISOC International Training Network
(http://www.mibisoc-itn.eu)

SCOPE

Medical imaging (MI) is at the heart of many of today’s improved diagnostic
and treatment technologies. Computer-based solutions are vastly more capable
of both quantitative measurement of the medical condition and the
pre-processing tasks of filtering, sharpening, and focusing image detail.
Bio-inspired and Soft Computing (BC, SC) techniques have been successfully
applied in each of the fundamental steps of medical image processing and
analysis (e.g. restoration, segmentation, registration or tracking). The
natural partnership of humans and intelligent systems and machines in MI is
to provide the clinician with powerful tools to take better decisions
regarding diagnostic and treatment. The application of SC and BC
methodologies in MI has increased in the last few years due to their
capability to deal with the uncertainty and imprecision underlying most of
real-world problems and, specifically, medical applications requiring the
use of image processing techniques.

MIBISOC2013 is organized as the main dissemination activity of the MIBISOC
project (http://www.mibisoc-itn.eu), an International Training Network (ITN)
participated by worldwide recognized institutions in the fields of the BC-SC
and MI: European Centre for Soft Computing, Ghent University, Université
Libre de Bruxelles, University of Nottingham, University of Parma,
University of Granada, Henesis, and University of Freiburg. The objective of
MIBISOC2013 is to facilitate the promotion of novel problems, research,
results, and future directions in the growing interdisciplinary area of
BC-SC applied to MI. It will provide an opportunity to meet researchers on
the topic, make new contacts and exchange ideas. It will also be used to
establish contacts with additional industrial organisations and hospitals
interested in the area, which will become potential users of the
developments contributed by the ITN.

The conference will comprise oral and poster presentations, two plenary
lectures, round tables, and related events. It will also include a social
program in the city of Brussels.

TOPICS OF INTEREST

The topics of interest for submission include, but are not limited to:

The application of Bio-inspired and Soft Computing techniques, as

* Evolutionary Computation and other Metaheuristics
*       Swarm Intelligence
* Fuzzy Logic and Fuzzy Systems,
*       Neural Networks, and
* Bayesian/possibilistic networks and Probabilistic Reasoning,

to medical imaging areas such us

*       Image acquisition
*       Image restoration
*       Image segmentation
*       Structure tracking
*       Image registration
*       Biomedical signal processing
*       Human activity recognition

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTED PAPERS

Prospective authors are invited to contribute high-quality full papers of at
most 8 pages length (IEEE style: two columns, single-spaced, including
abstract, figures and references, using 10 fonts, and with each page
numbered). The procedure for the submission of the papers will be published
in the Conference website ( http://www.softcomputing.es/mibisoc2013/ ) in
the near future. The articles will be peer reviewed by at least two
independent IPC members. Conference proceedings will be in electronic format
registered with ISBN.

SCHOLARSHIPS

There will be a number of scholarships provided by the conference. The
selected applicants will receive a grant to support the travel and
accommodation expenses. The application and selection procedures will be
published in the Conference website (
http://www.softcomputing.es/mibisoc2013/ ) in the near future.
