CALL FOR PAPERS
22nd IBEROAMERICAN CONGRESS ON PATTERN RECOGNITION

We are happy to welcome CIARP 2017 to Valparaíso, Chile.
The conference will be held on 7-10 November 2017 at Universidad Técnica
Federico Santa María.
CIARP is the major Iberoamerican congress for the presentation of new research
in pattern recognition.

The conference consists of four days of papers and tutorials as well as social
events at Valparaíso.
CIARP publishes original, high-quality papers related to pattern recognition.
CIARP 2017 welcomes contributions to any aspect of pattern recognition theory
as well as practical issues and applications.
Accepted papers will be published by Springer in its Lecture Notes in Computer
Science series.

Important dates:
Paper submission deadline: 9 June 2017 (extended)
Notification of acceptance: 1st August 2017
Camera-ready papers: 4th September 2017
Conference: 7-10 November 2017

Prospective authors are invited to contribute to the conference by
electronically submitting full papers in English of no more than 8 pages
including illustrations,
tables and references. Papers have to be formatted following LNCS style
guidelines. Papers will be evaluated based on their originality,
quality and significance of theoretical and/or practical contribution to
Pattern Recognition. At least one author of each accepted paper must register
at the conference.
Papers will be selected for oral presentations or poster presentations.
Only papers presented at the conference will be included in the proceedings.

Keynote speakers (confirmed):
- Aaron Courville (University of Montreal, Canada): Deep Generative Models
- Nello Cristianini (University of Bristol, UK): Artificial Intelligence and
our Obsession for Data
- Ingela Nystrom (Uppsala University, Sweden): Interactive Image Segmentation
and Visualization

Awards

CIARP 2017 will announce two awards:
 - Best Paper Award
 - Aurora Pons-Porrata Award

Best paper award. We are pleased to announce that an award consisting of a cash
prize and a certificate that will be given to author(s) of the best paper
registered and presented at CIARP 2017. The aim of this award is to acknowledge
and encourage excellence, originality and innovativeness of new models, methods
and techniques with an outstanding theoretical contribution and/or practical
contribution to the field of pattern recognition and/or data mining. The
selection of the winner will be based on the evaluation and recommendations
from members of the Program Committee and the evaluation of the CIARP-IAPR
Award Committee. The award will be announced at the closing ceremony of the
conference.

Aurora Pons-Porrata Award. We are pleased to announce an award in honor of the
memory of Professor Aurora Pons-Porrata. Professor Porrata, was a prominent
scientist and educator in the field of pattern recognition and data mining.
This Iberoamerican award is given annually to a living woman in recognition to
outstanding sustained contributions in the field pattern recognition and/or
data mining. The award consist of a cash prize a certificate and the APP medal.
The award will be announced at the closing ceremony of the conference.

Extended versions of the CIARP 2017 best paper and an invited paper by the
winner of the Aurora Pons-Porrata award will be included in a Special section
of the journal Pattern Recognition Letters.
