Okay, so I checked this again. Indeed consistently 30s after every DEAD event all counters in the "kapacitor show <task>" command reset to 0.
I just saw what I believe should have been a ALIVE event. Meaning the DEAD event preceded a count as seen on my 1s interval graph (grafana), within the noted 30s. Shortly after that all counters reset to 0. Somewhere after that Kapacitor should have noted this count measured in the preceding minute and register it, despite the fact that it might have set state to OK when resetting counters. Instead all counters simply remained at 0 and the measured count went unnoticed in any counters. The only thing I collected was another DEAD event shortly after.
