This is impossible to answer generically. The number of databases is not the primary driver of RAM use, it is the series cardinality <https://docs.influxdata.com/influxdb/v0.13/concepts/glossary/#series-cardinality> and the query load that primarily drive RAM needs. Replicating the same schema across multiple databases does drive up RAM, but mostly because it drives up series cardinality. > 2. How does the number of shard files affect performance? > More shards means slower queries but faster compactions and backups. The effects are minimal compared to other optimizations, though. > 3. If we use a single database, how difficult would it be to purge data > relating to a particular tag (e.g. client)? > DROP DATABASE is the fastest operation. DROP MEASUREMENT and DROP SERIES are not as performant, but it's impossible to give even a relative difference without a detailed schema analysis. A DROP operation will cause an increase in load on the system, so schedule client cleanups for a time when the system is not under high load. > > Thank you. > > Mark > > -- > Remember to include the InfluxDB version number with all issue reports > --- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "InfluxDB" group. > To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an > email to [email protected]. > To post to this group, send email to [email protected]. > Visit this group at https://groups.google.com/group/influxdb. > To view this discussion on the web visit > https://groups.google.com/d/msgid/influxdb/1e7f86a7-4214-4864-ba1a-0a87e435a80f%40googlegroups.com > . > For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout. > -- Sean Beckett Director of Support and Professional Services InfluxDB -- Remember to include the InfluxDB version number with all issue reports --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "InfluxDB" group.
