I'm confused by your example. If the type = "seen" then by definition the type cannot also equal "opened". Also if you are GROUPing by the type, but set type equal to one value, you are only going to get one group and the entire GROUP BY clause is redundant.
Can you provide actual input and output data to clarify? What query are you running, and what is it not returning?
