Here in the lab we have SGI, Ultrix and AIX /usr clients. This means
that all /usr stuff is shared and not writeable for clients. On some systems 
"/" is on the server as well.

What we are trying to come up with is a "standard" way of placing the stuff
normally found under /usr/vice/cache and /usr/vice/etc, which is client specific
and needs to be writeable by the client.

Obviously we have some solutions to get our kit to work, but we would like to know
if there is any experience with doing this in a consitent way across platforms.
