AFS client code for single-processor machines will not run stable on
multi-processor systems. Transarc currently supports neither IBM SMP
systems nor SGI multi-processor systems (nor other multi-processor
platforms?). They promised that they will work on a port, but they
didn't commit to a time schedule yet.

Please tell your friendly Transarc representative that you are in
desperate need of SMP support. The more people ask for it, the earlier
they might be willing to do it.

At least Transarc says the server port is easier than the client port.
