We had setup a pop3 mail server on a Sun Sparc20 with Solaris 2.3.
You can find the software on our anonymous ftp server:

ftp.fh-heilbronn.de : /ftp/pub/afs-tools/kapop_sol2.tar.gz

There is one bug: it works only with the debug-option. Thats why the 
contents of our /etc/inetd.conf is:

pop2 stream ..... /usr/sbin/popper popper -a -d -t /tmp/poplog
