Oh yes, I have!

Last time it happened when one of our IBM 7137 RAIDs gave SCSI errors out of
the blue. 5 minutes later the fileserver and volserver went down and left us
28-odd GB of user data in 'Call your IBM representative' state.

As you did, I unmounted everything, fsck'ed by hand, and launched a 'bos
salvage' on the whole server. If anybody know of a quicker way I'd be
interested. 

I must admit that at the time I was not at all upset and on the contrary
happy that we got away with roughly over 2 hours downtime: two weeks earlier
we had lost a *whole RAID* when two of its 8 disks bombed out after an
unscheduled power cut - somewhat lengthy to reload...
