I'm seeing the same problems on some of our Sparc 20s running 2.4. I
called tech support and they pointed me to a patched 3.4a client set, but
that didn't seem to fix it consitently.
From my ethernet hub I can see some intermittent traffic between the
client and the AFS server, but I haven't bothered to examine the traffic
to find out what might be going on. We're still in the midst of our
"evaluation", so it hasn't been a pressing issue, yet.

I'd recommend installing the complete "Solaris 2.4 Recommended" patch
set. I'm going to do this next week and I'll let you know what I find out.
I don't see this problem on 2.5, btw.
