Break down your tree into many directories each being a volume that way
the vos release will operate much faster because, you now will have a
much finer resolution with regards to managing updated to particular
data sets.  The flip side is that you will have more volumes to manage
and a more complex directory tree to mantain.  But that is the only
way to speed up the updates of read-only volumes.
