Yes, I have. And experienced replacements of file servers and disks.

AFS access contol lists are saved and restored with "backup" command
of AFS. No manual operation is needed for setting acls.
In other hand, AFS acls are just recorded on the volume by ID# of
users and groups with independence of its authentication database.
AFS volume backups doesn't concern the link of a user name and its ID#.

If you lose your authentication DB, pairs of AFS ID# and an access
permission are completely meeningless.
For the situation described above, I suggest you to backup not only
AFS volumes but AFS DB's.
