backup failed message

When backing up volumes using backup dump vol-name level  I'm getting
the following error for each volumes:

Volume user.backup (536871025) failed
     Possible communication failure


Any idea why this is happening.   I'm backing up only "*.backup" volumes
and some of them are mounted and some or them are not
