We're starting to put together the hardware/OS specifications for our
AFS cell.
The three main contenders are:
Sparc 20/Solaris 2.5
IBM C10/AIX 3.2.5
IBM C20/AIX 4.1.4
I'd love to hear folks experiences with these three platforms, and
suggestions as to what the "best" server platform is of these three. I'm
leaning towards AIX, as I have been very impressed with the stability of
the OS, error logging, etc. Its going to definitely be between AIX and
Solaris, as these are the two OSes with which we have a lot of expertise
and experience.
I'd also consider the UltraSparcs, except that the hardware is extremely
new, and it seems like the amount of CPU would be overkill for an AFS
fileserver. If folks have comments or experience with this platform, I'd
love to hear it.
