We are in the process of configuring several new RSM-214, SPARCstorage Arrays
(SSA) with our DFS servers. I'd be very interested in hearing from others
regarding gotcha's, configuration considerations, and other issues.

Highlights of our current plans include:

o Each DFS server is connected to 2 SSA's via fibre channel.
     See rough sketch below:

        SSA #1 SSA #2
     ------------------ --------------------
    | | | |
    | DFS Server #1 | | DFS Server #1 |
    | Primary (plex) | | Secondary (plex) |
    | Disk Mirrors | | Disk Mirrors |
    | | | |
     ------------------ --------------------
    | | | |
    | DFS Server #2 | | DFS Server #2 |
    | Primary (plex) | | Secondary (plex) |
    | Disk Mirrors | | Disk Mirrors |
    | | \ / | |
     ------------------ \ / --------------------
            | \ / |
            | / \ |
      FC/1a | / \ | FC/2a
            | / \ |
            | FC/1b / \ FC/2b |
     ------------------ --------------------
    | | | |
    | DFS Server #1 | | DFS Server #2 |
    | | | |
     ------------------ --------------------

o Use Veritas Volume Manager software to configure stripe and mirror disks
o Use RAID(0+1), instead of RAID5 for better performance
o Each stripe of mirror'd disks would constitue an LFS aggregate
o Should a server fail, we plan to either 1) install a hot-spare or 2)
have surviving server attached to other port of SSA take on ownership
of all drives on both SSA's, then have the FLDB resync with new drives.

We have other thoughts/ideas/questions and would be interested in going into
more detail... if there is interest. This may be a candidate for discussion
at DECORUM.
