I had the impression that AIX 4.1 supported file fragmentation.
Ie, if the end of a file is much smaller than 4K (or whatever
the allocation unit is on the filesystem), only *part* of
a 4K block will be used to hold the end, and the remainder
of the file will be used to hold the ends of several other files.
Such change would (I should think) represent an incompatible
change to the filesystem. If it's not, in fact, necessary to
rebuild the filesystem, it would at least seem to be highly
desirable.
Does IBM supply some sort of conversion utility? Does it
work even with AFS fileserver partitions?
