Greetings,

We are currently upgrading all of our AFS machines from Solaris 2.3/AFS 3.3 to
Solaris 2.5/AFS 3.4a. We have upgraded all clients and have nearly completed all of
the file servers. Our last hurdle is our 3 database servers. Our tentative plan is
as follows:

1. Distribute a new CellServeDB file with the names of three new database servers in
it (even though the new machines will not be database servers yet).

2. Shutdown our old Database Servers.

3. Copy the database files to three (previously upgraded) machines and bring them up
as the new database servers.

4. Redistribute the CellServeDB file with the 3 old database servers removed.

5. Bring up the old database servers as regular file servers and upgrade them at our
leisure.

The question:

Has anybody else gone through this type of transition? If so, how did you accomplish
it? What things should we be aware of? Is there a better way than what we have
outlined above?

We appreciate any information.

Thanks,

Mike Mosley
