A way to query afsmon-like information via snmp would be nice, but I
am wary of a daemon running on an AFS server which just checks for
process existence, etc.
A big advantage of afsmon and tools like it as opposed to snmp is you
exercise the monitored system directly instead of relying on what a
third party claims, e.g., bos is supposed to keep the other services
running yet bos itself can die while everything else is working, or
worse yet, bos can (or used to) lie about the status of the
subsystems.
In closing, I can't see paying $150 for such a system unless it made
the RPC calls itself and just made the information available via
snmp...and came with really good support.
