I'm a new AFS administrator in postech.ac.kr cell.
We are upgrading database servers from Base configuration afs3.4 4.35
to afs3.4 5.38 on Digital UNIX 3.2. From the AFS Installation Guide
and AFS Release Notes, we know upgrading steps as follows :

Step 1: Install the binary files on the binary distribution machine.
                (Command : bos install ...)
Step 2: Restart the database servers.
                (Command : bos restart ...)
Step 3: Install the AFS kernel extensions for use in building a new
kernel as described in the AFS Installation Guide.
Step 4: Reboot the database server machine.

We had already upgraded our /usr/afs/bin/fileserver binary
of database servers without building kernel. But, at that time,
our database was down showing kernel memory panic messages.

Now, we are upgrading database servers with building kernel.
We are worrying that servers may be down between the Step 2 and
the Step 3 as the last time.

        Our questions are as follows:
        1. Is the above upgrading steps right?
        2. Between the the Step 2 and the Step 3, the version of new server
binaries is different from the AFS kernel extension.
                How about this?
