once upon a time, i asked a grad student write a package that refreshed
k4 creds securely.

he wrote some software, wrote a paper, expanded his ideas into a
thesis, graduated, and went on to a brilliant career.

but the software never worked properly.

this has been no end of embarrassment to me, and i regret bringing it
up.

ps: the software is called khat. the paper is citi tech rep 93-1,
A.D. Rubin and P. Honeyman, "Long Running Jobs in an Authenticated
Environment," March 1993. [Proc. Fourth USENIX UNIX Security Symp.,
Monterey (September 1993).]

pps: anybody want to finish a program that almost works? (not i, said the mouse.)
