Hi to all of You
I'm no old afs-guru, I'm involved for a year now.
Are You sure you did not mixed up some things ?
I think of this :
3 new and 3 old one !
Then : 4) Kill the old servers
Resutls in Syncside is gone.
If the New one get the higer IP , no new syncside is choosable.
Eventualy 5) Update clients' CellServDB files can take a while
Earliest then a new syncside is choosable; this take other 90 Sec.
I 'd have guessed this
1) Bring up new servers and make them known to the old one
(DB-server's CellServDB)
2) Wait a few days to make sure the server are working fine
(think for upserver to put on a new machine as well and
to reorganize the upcliententry too).
3) Update clients' CellServDB files (this can take a while if You
have no automatism as we have )
4) Wait a few days to make sure the client deal well with the new
server
5) anounce the new BD-server adresses worldwide
(Via transarc ? Via this list? ...)
6) wait a few days to give everyone a changce to update its
CellServDB or/and root.afs
7) remove a old one from the DB-server's CellServDB and then
shoot down the old one. Then do the next.
Starting with the highesd IP of the
old one, ending with the lowest , so probably only
one syncside-change is forced and the leftover server
can choos a new one since they still got the majority.
Am I { wrong | paranoid | write } ?
