The usual answer to this question is : No, reboot your machine.
However, in this case this is a 64 processor Sun Starfire E10000 which
has batch jobs running for weeks.
Now, one processor card is bad, and needs to be replaced.
This can be done if all processes running on the processor card is
stopped or moved to another processor.
All processes including internal Solaris kernel threads can be moved or
stopped, but afsd cannot.
Thus we'll have to restart the whole machine just because afds cannot be
killed, probably killing weeks or months of processing already done.
Are there any secret tricks?
Question also applies to DFS, since we are migrating to DFS.
