It might be worth mentioning that when we applied the last cron patch (105621) 
to Solaris 2.6, we started noticing it was now "PAM" aware.  We had to go back 
to our /etc/pam.conf and put this in:
   cron    auth required   /usr/lib/security/pam_unix.so.1
to get cron working properly again.  I suspect this is whats affecting you.
