We have a need for hierarchical cells, a concept that AFS currently
does not support. What I would like to see is a master site that would
have replicas in our other labs around the world. These labs would
be set up as distinct cells, and users in these cells would use the
data that is local to their cell, and would never have to communicate
(via AFS) outside of their cell to get data that is in the master cell.
They could if they really wanted to, but I'd like to remove the need
for the users to have to log into the master cell.
The way I see it, we can't do this with AFS unless we write a little
1000 line C program that logs into the master cell, and each of the
other cells, and copies the files that have changed in the master
cell to the other cell. Someone must have confronted, and overcome
this problem already, and I was hoping to borrow their technology,
or gain some insight into how it was done.
Thanks in advance.
