The Transarc training department is pleased to offer a DCE Developer's Kit
Application Programming class to be held in Pittsburgh Wednesday, August 19
through Friday, August 21. There will also be classes held on the following
dates throughout the remainder of 1992:
September 16-18
October 21-23
November 11-13
December 9-11
The course description is as follows:
Purpose: This class teaches the students how to use the components
of the DCE to create a simple distributed application.
Objectives:
By the end of the class the students should
1. be familiar with the components of the DCE and the functionality
they provide
2. understand concepts necessary for writing a simple distributed
application using DCE
3. be able to use the timeop examples and understand the DCE calls
made in the series of examples.
Description: This course
1. familiarizes the students with the OSF Distributed Computing
Environment (DCE) components
2. discusses the issues that arise when creating a distributed
application.
3. uses the DCE standard "timeop" example to illustrate the use
of the DCE components as necessary to implement a basic distributed
application.
Topics include:
1. gives a general overview of the DCE
2. includes an introduction to CDS and the Security Service
3. presents the RPC Service including: introduction, building an
application, timeop example programs
4. discusses the CDS and Security Service APIs needed for timeop
example program
5. presents the DCE threads: basics, and synchronization issues
