We say, "don't use AFS." More specifically my suggestion would be to
write in chunks with a close to multiple files at reletively short
intervals. Keep the period of actually writting to AFS as small as
possible, or with the smallest chunk you are willing to loose because of
a client, server or network failure. If you need to be writting to a
file for an extended period of time, do it to the local disk then copy
the file. There are ways to reauthenticate which will help you out.
Try taking a look at reauth in the contrib area. It has bugs if you set
the reauth interval to small, but it generally does the job.
