We run our AFS backups unattended. I created a user called "afsback"
which runs the "butc" and "backup" processes. I also added afsback to
the BOS users list. afsback also owns the /usr/afs/backup directory
and files and the /usr/afs/db/bdb.* files.

We use the "reauth" daemon to keep the afsback user authenticated at
all times. The butc process runs in a window on the backup server. A
nightly cron job runs a backup script.

We use a compression DAT drive which can hold about 4GB. This allows
for unattended backups as long as the backup fits on one tape.
