We've done it here. We're using an Exabyte 10i stacker and
have modified butc to run as a deamon and load tapes that
have been configured. We also run the backup dump command
>From cron. We've written our own authentication software but
you could modify or use the reauth software that's available.
As a point of interest, with version 3.2 of backup, you don't
have to have a modified version of butc to run as long as you
make sure the right tape is loaded before doing the backup
request!! (assuming less that 5 Gigs (one tape) per dumpset)
We'll be talking about this at the next AFS Users group
during the Backup Issues panel. At that point we'll probably
make our modified butc available as long as Transarc has no
objections.
