The real problem with fms, is that the Transarc code can not handle
an end of tape, and thus fms was invented so you would never come
close to the end. Most people use 4500M on the Exabyte 8500 tapes,
but some tapes might be able to hold 5100M.

With compression, what number do you use? A previous note said it
could hold between 5 and 25G, and fms got 100G of zeros. If you
guess to low, you don't benefit from compression. If you guess to high
it might not all fit, and butc will reach the end of the tape.
(I don't know what happens then, maybe some one can tell us.)

I would like to submit a design change requirement to Transarc.

Backup and its related programs need to be able to use a full tape,
and recognize the end of tape condition. This would then allow
full use of tapes such as the Exabyte 8500c with compression.
