The alpha release of krb524 is now available via anonymous ftp on
athena-dist.mit.edu (18.71.0.38) in the directory
pub/kerberos/dist/krb524.

krb524 is a service that converts Kerberos V5 credentials into
Kerberos V4 credentials suitable for use with applications that for
whatever reason do not use V5 directly. The service consists of a
server that has access to the secret key of the Kerberos service for
which credentials will be converted, and a library for use by client
programs that wish to use the server.

This release does not contain a modified version of MIT's aklog
program. The conversion of that program to work with krb524 is now
trivial and left as an exercise for the reader. :-) (Hint: Replace the
'get_cred' function in aklog_param.c with a version that calls
krb5_get_credentials() followed by krb524_convert_creds().)
Alternatively, you can use the included program k524init, which
converts a specified V5 credential into a V4 credential that existing
V4 applications can use without modification.

Thanks to MIT Information Systems for allowing us to distribute this
software via their FTP server, and to Ted Ts'o and Richard Basch for
testing and suggestions.
