We are running AFS 3.2a on HP 9000/700's at HP-UX 9.01.
For some time we have had the problem that the weekly restart
fails to work on about half of our machines. Is this peculiar
to HP's, or is it more widespread? For the moment I have
changed the restart time from Sunday to Monday on all machines
but one; this means I don't get called in on Sunday to fix things.
One of the two central file servers I have restarting on Tuesday,
since there were often problems when both collapsed at the same restart
   time.

We have seen the same problem. We have two HP servers running AFS
3.2a, HP-UX 9.01. One of them sometimes fails to restart. There are
no errors reported in any log, but all AFS processes, including bos,
die. We also saw this problem under HP-UX 8.07. Staggering the
restart times seems to have reduced the frequency of the problem, but
the problem is still present. Our HP's have all of /usr within AFS,
and I have made sure that at least one replicate of /usr is always
available when the HP's restart.
