This is due to your group id not being correctly set in xdm.
The solution is to apply the fix suggested by Axel Clauberg
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> that you will find in:
/afs/grand.central.org/pub/afs-contrib/tools/xdm/Cologne-setgid-fix
