I have an anonymous ftp server (ftp.mcc.ac.uk) in which nearly all
files reside in AFS. There is one partition which is mounted using
NFS from a Sun; the mount point is in AFS, but the mounted file system
is of course visible only on the ftp machine.
I am using the Washington University ftpd (2.1c(8)), with my own modifications
to do authentication, which is necessary since the same ftpd is used for
all user ftp as well. The logging feature allows me to keep statistics
of transfers; I have just cheated by putting the log file outside of AFS,
on the root partition.
I should say that I am using this software with AFS 3.3 on HP 9000/700
machines running HP-UX 9.01. I have tried to compile it for our AIX
machines, but, though it compiles perfectly well, it does not allow
anyone to initiate ftp sessions. Neither does the Transarc ftpd for that
matter.
