We have a situation where a user has an AFS home directory and wants to
run an application on a machine that has access to his home directory
only through the NFS/AFS Translator. I know this is not the preferred
way to run, but for now it's what we have.

Anyway, a problem occurs which appears to be related to the translator
and, perhaps, a timing problem? The application creates a temporary
file in his home directory and then right away reads that file and
displays its information in an X-window. What we actually see
happening is that the file gets created (he uses knfs to get
permissions), but the application doesn't display the information
immediately. After doing several other things in the application and
returning to the original screen, then his stuff is displayed.

It seems like the file gets created, but the translator doesn't know
about it until a short time later. Does this make sense? Has anyone
else had similar experiences? Is there something we can do to get
around this problem?

By the way, the applications the user is running are nsoft (from Ncode)
and mvision (from PDA). Does anyone else use these in conjunction with AFS?

Thanks,
Hope Goering
