I assume you're doing this so that multiple clients can access the news
through afs.  This seems like a bad idea to me.  You'll run into the same
problem Andrew did, too many directory callbacks.  There is already a news
reading protocol, and being special-purpose, it's better suited to the task
than afs is.  Why not use it?  Or did you have something else in mind?
