My understanding is that it simplifies load balancing across disk partitions
and eases the volume restore process... not aware of performance gains.

Sorry this question is sorta a tangent of the current one. This 100MB/volume
general rule, does it mean performance degragation when you go much over
that or is it just for convenience when restoring....etc.
