We had the same problem. Transarc supplied us with a new library but have not
had the opportunity to test it out.

Subject: IRIX5.2 + afs33a + emacs19.27 build = system crash

Has anyone managed to successfully build emacs19 in
AFS file space on a system running IRIX5.2 and afs33a? I've
never tried to build it on IRIX before, so I don't know if
this is a new problem, but it is an amazingly effective way
to crash a machine. The final phase (./temacs -batch -l loadup dump)
of the build is what crashes the machine.
After taking down machines about four times, it
occurred to me that build in /tmp was worth a final try.
That worked, so AFS is the problem.
