The Silicon Graphics rep that I talked to yesterday was not aware of any
efforts on the part of SGI or Transarc to provide AFS support for the
soon-to-be-released IRIX 5.3 and 6.0 operating systems. Is anyone aware of
such efforts? If we were to consider moving from IRIX 5.2 to IRIX 5.3, how
long would we have to wait before AFS would be available? All our users are
using AFS 3.3a with IRIX 5.2 at this time.
For a little background, we are not running payroll or anything like that on
our system, so some small amount of instability is acceptable as long as we
have some assurance that problems we run into will be fixed in a reasonable
amount of time.
If AFS is not going to be ported, but DFS is, that would be an acceptable
alternative. We would be interested in information on that alternative as well.
