Gentlemen
We are interested in assessing the operational needs of an AFS
cell. In particular, we would like to better understand such
things as the administrative load which it is likely to generate,
the system programming support which is typical of such a cell,
the hardware backup which should be held on site and so on. I
would like to gather this information through responses to a
questionnaire; however, I would first like to assess the level
of interest in such an exercise, that is to say, the likely
response level. If there is sufficient interest to make it
worthwhile, then I would be prepared to collate the results
and post them back to 'info-afs', but with references to
specific organisations removed if so required.
So, my questions are:
1) Would you be prepared to respond to a questionnaire
asking about the way you run/develop/support your AFS
cell?
2) Would you be prepared to contribute questions for
inclusion in the questionnaire?
My initial suggested list of questions is:
1) How many clients and servers (possibly including type)
do you support?
2) How much data does your cell hold, and what is its
approximate annual growth rate?
3) How, if at all, do you combine cell administration,
system programming, and client workstation support?
4) For each of the separate roles you identified in
response to Q3, how many people do you have in each
category?
5) Again, for each of the separate roles you identified
in response to Q3, what level of skill/experience is
required?
Should you wish to respond to this note other than via info-afs
then please feel free to submit it directly to my own e-mail
address which is: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
