Ok! A "round-robin" would be an acceptable solution if the servers
are all in the same (fast) network where, no matter what server is
given for a specific request, the performance would be more or less
the same.

  But...
I have an AFS cell with file-servers spread all around Europe (uk,
fr, pt, de and nl). In this setup, a round-robin distribution of the
WWW servers would be silly. Imagine someone working in UK asking for a
page available locally through AFS and the 'round-robin' DNS server
re-directs its request to the WWW server in... France. Not very smart!
The ideal solution would redirect the request to the server nearest
him (with the fast response timings).

Is there a solution for this problem that takes in consideration the
connection timings between the requester and the server ?

tks in adv & a Happy New Year !
