I've been working on a CellServDB cleanup project for the past few
months and would now like to get the AFS community involved in the
process.
I started out by writing a script to do the most of the work.
It begins by checking the basic syntax of the file and verifying that
each IP address matches the corresponding host name. Then it uses
"bos listhost" to confirm that the list of servers given in the input
is the same as the servers' /usr/afs/etc/CellServDB file. The script
is now available to the public in the AFS-Contributed area:
/afs/transarc.com/public/afs-contrib/tools/cellservdb
If you have any comments on the script, feel free to send me mail.
(My apologies in advance if I don't answer questions right away --
this is a very low-priority project right now.)
I've used the script to take a first pass over the Transarc CellServDB
file kept in /afs/transarc.com/service/etc/CellServDB.export. I would
now like to issue a general call for updates to the file. If you see
out of date entries or know of cells which are not listed but should
be, please have your AFS Site Contact send the details to the usual
AFS Product Support e-mail address. I propose going through your Site
Contact to avoid dozens of duplicate reports. I would rather have the
mail sent through official channels instead of directly to me.
(That's the normal procedure, anyway, as outlined in the AFS
Installation Guide.)
Based on the output of the script, I've made a number of changes and
updates. It's possible that these entries, while reflecting reality
today, might not be exactly as the cell administrators would like them
to be. I'll include a list of modified cells below so cell
administrators can check out these unsolicited updates.
The next step will be to get all AFS clients and root.afs volumes
updated with the new CellServDB information. It will probably take a
few weeks for admins to get their updated information sent to
Transarc, so I'll wait until next month before pursuing that goal.
Thanks,
Joe Jackson,
AFS Product Engineer,
Transarc Corp.
Removed the following cells because the servers listed were not running
bosservers. Worse than that, the names and ip addresses no longer matched.
