hello all, a colleague informs me of a strange behavior of AFS on his Sun: copying a ~40MB file from one AFS area to another brings his Sun to its knees. the cursor even stops blinking. perfmonitor shows high cpu activity, but his disk doesn't chatter. does AFS drag the file into his disk cache, across the network, and then read it from the cache and send it back out across the network? (if so, why no disk chatter?) he claims that this behavior is worse than copying a file across an NFS connection to an Epoch archival file storage machine we have hanging around (which is generally a pretty slow machine). can anyone give me a plausible explanation of this? i have generally said that anything NFS can do, AFS can do better. must i amend this position? joe [EMAIL PROTECTED]
