Hello,

we are running AFS 3.3 on a number of Sun (sun4m_412 and sun4m_53)
workstations and PowerPCs (rs_aix32).

We encountered the following problem: A process using a file, that resides on
a crashed fileserver stops waiting for the server after a few seconds
("Connection timed out"). This is nice for interactive processes like shells,
but is a serious problem for daemons, which want to use their configuration
files, or log files. These daemons normally crash after such a situation
instead of waiting for the server to come up again (like NFS did).

Is there any solution apart from replicating the data, so that (nearly) always
a fileserver is up to serve the client? Is there any time out value, which
could be set?

Regards,
   Till Bubeck
