Well, we sure would like to know what Bill Cattey has that we don't have
because I'll have to agree with Mark that Solaris 2.3 and AFS 3.3a sure
does have its problems. Our major problem symptoms range from server
"filesystem freeze", kernel panics, and server "shutdown syndrome". Our
servers are multi-processor Sparc-1000's and dual processor Sparc-20's.
AFS works fairly well until any kind of load is placed on the servers
caused by lots of file accesses, file writes, or user login processes.
We have installed patched AFS binaries and all required Solaris OS patches
but still see the same problems.
We have sent system core dumps to Transarc for analysis as well as
before and after reboot logs. We have SUN technical support on site
and have tuned and run diagnostics on all our servers. Between SUN and
Transarc you would think someone would have a clue what the problem is
and fix it. We are still hoping.
Today we received AFS 3.4 Beta and will be building a test AFS environment
consisting of a SPARC-1000 and SPARC-20 (Solaris 2.4). The new servers
are suppose to be delivered late June 95. Will keep you posted. (Never say die)
