That's not all that strange. On AIX for instance, the fragment size for
JFS is 4K. So if the volume has 1000 1 byte files, the space used on the
volume will be low, but it will be taking up 4 MEG on disk. The same
goes for sym-links.
Does the volume have lots of small files and/or sym-links?
