We received the source from Transarc a year or so ago for an AFS/NFS
translator. We use it on quite a few systems that they have not
ported the client software to yet. It has been very flakey on some of
our systems, and we notice quite a few crashes on the machines which are
the NFS servers for AFS. We have been in contact with Transarc about
some of the problems, however, I don't think they really have plans
to support it very much. In fact I don't know if you can even get the
software from them anymore?? It would be VERY handy to have a stable,
supported version of the AFS/NFS translator. We use AFS almost exclusively
on our systems, so when a vendor has an OS upgrade it sometimes takes
months before Transarc releases even a beta version of AFS for the new
client OS. There are currently a number of our systems that are using the
translator because of this very situation. As Transarc comes out with
the client software we are able to make a smooth transition over to using
the new release.
