This bit me, badly, when we stored PC home directories in AFS (through a
Samba gateway service).
MS Office documents tend to rely on byte range locks. AFS does not support
byte range locks. What's worse (at least under SunOS/Solaris), the AFS
client returns a success value to the calling program - while printing a
warning on the system console.
